Two teenagers killed in Manchester shooting named

A 15-year-old girl and her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend who died in a double shooting in Greater Manchester at the weekend have been named by police.

Kally Gilligan was found dead at a house in Orion Place in Lower Broughton, Salford, shortly after 10:15am on Saturday morning. Joshua Thompson was also found in the house, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

Greater Manchester Police said that the incident was being treated as a murder inquiry but said that initial accounts and information were that no-one else was involved.

In a statement, Kally's family described her as a "kind and considerate, beautiful young lady. She will be missed so much by her mum, sisters, brothers, grandparents and dad."

Joshua's parents also issued a statement in which they describe him as "a bright young man with a life ahead of him."

The statement said: "Josh was loved by all his family and many of his friends. He will be missed greatly. The special one is what he was to us. The youngest of four, he had just passed his exams in college and was hoping to study for a diploma in sports science.

"His ambition was to be a PE teacher. He loved his football and was an avid MUFC fan. As a family we are in shock as we could not have foreseen this tragic unfortunate tragedy. It seems unreal. As a family, we are trying to come to terms with what has happened.

"Our thoughts are with Kally's family. We can't imagine how you feel, but we are so sorry for the loss of your lovely daughter as she was known to all our family."
