Man questioned over Rachel Nickell murder
Police investigating the murder of model Rachel Nickell in 1992 are questioning a 40-year-old man about the case, police have revealed.
It has been reported that the man is a convicted sex killer who is currently being detained at Broadmoor high security hospital. Police have not named the man and it is understood that the man has not been arrested.
However, it has been reported that the man is being questioned following a new discovery through modern DNA techniques.
Ms Nickell, 23, was murdered as she walked with her two-year-old son, Alex, on Wimbledon Common in 1992. She was sexually assaulted and stabbed 49 times.
Colin Stagg, from south-west London, was charged with the murder and went on trial in 1994. However, the case was thrown out due to lack of evidence. It was revealed that police had used an undercover female detective as a "honey trap" to encourage Mr Stagg to confess to the murder.
