Henman crashes out to defending champion Federer
Tim Henman appeared to start out in reasonable form against Roger Federer in the second- round Wimbledon clash, losing the first set, but with two chances to break the Swiss serve.
However, the Henman game was no match for the relentless play from the defending Wimbledon champion who has an enviable unbeaten run. The British number three player bowed out of this year's championship in straight sets: 6-4; 6-0; 6-2.
After the game commentator John McEnroe said that things could have gone better for Henman. "He could have got a better draw," quipped the three times Wimbledon champion who is commentating for the BBC.
McEnroe pointed to Henman's patchy, five-set, Court One match against Robin Soderling on Monday as a prime cause for the inability of Henman to face the Federer onslaught.
"As your body ages, recovery time is not what it was and you are not as quick as you were," said McEnroe.
Unseeded Henman had spent three-and-a-quarter hours on court against Soderling on Tuesday with little recovery time before facing the defending champion on Wednesday.
It was not a game that Henman was going to win - the pundits agreed that Federer was on top of his game as he authoritatively dismissed Henman.
Federer will face Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in his third round match.
Briton's Andy Murray is to play today in his second round match on Centre Court against Julien Benneteau.
Murray is anticipating a tough match against Benneteau who was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the French Open.
