One minute EU guide launched
A one minute guide to the EU has been launched by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The online guide is an animated tour of the EU and gives information about EU countries, how the EU works and its impact on our lives.
The guide also complements a new printed publication called 'Guide to the European Union', which is being sent to public libraries and other information points around the UK.
The initiative comes as a new survey revealed that 85% of UK citizens say that they know nothing or little about the EU, its policies and its institutions, while only 2% say that they know a great deal.
Nearly 70% of the British public would like more information on what the EU does for the individual and two-thirds think the government is responsible for providing this information.
The Eurobarometer survey also revealed some of the gap's in the British public's awareness about the EU, with 56% thinking there were only 20 countries in the EU, while 35% thought that Turkey was already a member.
Launching the guide, Europe Minister Geoff Hoon said: "The one minute guide is a great way to find out more about how the EU works and its impact on all our lives.
"I hope it will encourage more people to get online to access more information about what the EU is currently doing on the issues which we all care about from tackling climate change to reducing 'roaming' costs for mobile phones."

Sixties public information film returns to television
Joe and Petunia, the characters of one of Britain's best-known public information films, are set to return to television screens after being given a 21st century makeover. The animated couple first appeared on TV screens in 1968 in a film urging the public to contact the Coastguard on 999 for coastal emergencies.

Aldi has recalled 200g packs of Choceur Treasures because salmonella was detected in one batch of the product. The packs, with a best before date of 1 September 2015, have been on sale in Aldi stores in the Midlands region only. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.
