Man arrested over bus stabbings
Police investigating an attack in which three teenage girls were stabbed after getting off a bus in Bridport, Dorset, have arrested a man.
The 20-year-old from Bridport was arrested in the Seaton area of east Devon on Thursday afternoon.
Charlotte Teague, 14, Sophie Hyne, 15 - both from Bridport - and 17-year-old Kirsty Edwards from Staffordshire were attacked around 5:50pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The three girls had taken the No.31 bus - bound for Charmouth in Dorset and then Axeminster in Devon - from Weymouth before getting off in Bridport town centre's East Street.
The girls were treated at the scene before being taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. Sophie and Kirsty are being treated in a general ward, while Charlotte was taken to intensive care. However, on Thursday afternoon it was reported that she had been moved to a general ward. All are said to be in a stable condition.
The scene around the attack was sealed off and police have also seized the single-decker bus that the girls travelled on.
Officers are also examining CCTV footage from Bridport town centre.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "We are still appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward in confidence - people who were on the No.31 bus from Weymouth to Axeminster via Dorchester as well as anyone who was in the vicintiy of the bus stop outside the Nat West Bank in East Street, Bridport, just before 5:50pm on Wednesday afternoon."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dorset Police on: 01305 222 222 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
