Police granted more time to question 'bomb plot' suspects
Police investigating an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic flights have been granted more time to question five suspects.
Police have been granted a further seven days to continue questioning them.
They have already been held for 21 days.
Under the new anti-terror legislation, terror suspects can be held for questioning for 28 days.
The lawyer of one of the suspects, Muhammed Usman Siddique, 24, has criticised the conditions under which the suspects are being held.
Khalid Elahi claimed that his client had been subjected to daily strip-searches and that he had suffered both physically and mentally during his period of detention.
Mr Elahi said that Mr Siddique had had a "very difficult" 21 days in police custody.
He said: "During this time he has been questioned continuously on a regular basis under extremely difficult conditions."
On Wednesday, Mohammed Sahmin Uddin, 35, Mohammed Yasar Gulzar, 25, and Nabeel Hussain, 22, appeared in court charged in connection with the alleged bomb plot.
All three were charged with conspiracy to murder and preparing acts of terrorism and were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 18.
Twelve other people have also been charged in connection with the alleged bomb plot and are also in custody.
