British soldier killed in Iraq
A British soldier has died after being involved in a shooting in Iraq earlier this week.
The soldier, from 58 Battery of 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, died as a result of injuries sustained in a shooting in the town of Al Qurna, north of Basra, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.
The MoD said that the soldier's injuries were so serious that the medical team involved were unable to save him.
A statement released by the MoD said: "Our condolences are with his family and friends. Next of kin have been informed. No further details will be released until the family's wishes have been established."
Two soldiers from 58 Battery, 12 Regiment Royal Artillery died earlier this week. Gunners Samuela Vanua, 27, and Stephen Wright, 20, were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Ad Dayr, north of Basra on Monday.
