Marianne Faithfull diagnosed with breast cancer
Singer Marianne Faithfull has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 59-year-old singer has rescheduled a world tour, which was due to kick-off next month, until next year.
Her publicist Rob Partridge said in a statement: "The disease has been quickly discovered by doctors in France. The prognosis for a return to full health is excellent."
Partridge added in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live: "Obviously she was very upset, but now she's in big fighting mood and determined to beat the cancer."
Faithful was positive: "I have absolute faith and confidence in my fantastic medical team and of course I will be well again, if not better than ever."
Faithfull's most recent album was a greatest hits compilation, released in 2005.
She rose to fame in the 1960s as Mick Jagger's girlfriend and starring in a number of popular films. She has enjoyed continued success as a singer and has most recently worked with Blur's Damon Albarn and Nick Cave.
Faithfull is looking forward to a successful world tour next year.
