MBE conman jailed for 18 months
A former police employee who conned his way to receiving an MBE from the Queen has been jailed for 18 months.
Norwich Crown Court heard how Michael Eke, 38, had conducted an elaborate plan in order to get himself on the honours list and appear before the Queen at Buckingham Palace in 2003.
The court heard how Eke obtained £66,000 through a number of deceptions over a four-year period, also collecting thousands of pounds in lottery grants for events for young people which never went ahead.
Eke also sold computers, cameras and other electrical goods taken from his employer, Cambridgeshire Police and the March Air Training Corps, where he was squadron leader.
Eke admitted to 14 charges involving fraud, theft and deception.
Three other charges were left on file.
