Menezes family begins court battle
The family of Jean Charles de Menezes is challenging the High Court decision not to prosecute any individual officers over his killing.
The 27-year-old Brazilian was shot eight times in Stockwell station in south London on July 22 last year, after being mistaken for a potential suicide bomber.
In July, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute any of the officers involved in the fatal shooting, saying that there was "insufficient evidence". However, the Metropolitan Police have been charged with failing to provide for the health, safety and welfare of Mr Menezes on the day of the shooting.
Mr Menezes' family want a judicial review of the Crown Prosecution Service's decision. Their lawyers will also challenge the adjournment of an inquest into his death and the failure of the Independent Police Complaints Commission to publish its report on the shooting.
