Geeling killer sentence to be appealed
Prosecutors have launched an appeal against the minimum sentence handed to the teenager who killed schoolboy Joe Geeling.
Michael Hamer was jailed for life for the murder of the 11-year-old last month and was told that he would have to serve a minimum sentence of 12 years.
The Crown Prosecution Service has asked Attorney General Lord Goldsmith to consider referring the case to the Court of Appeal.
Joe, who suffered from cystic fibrosis, disappeared as he returned from school in Bury, Greater Manchester, on March 1 this year. His body was later found in Whitehead Park.
During his trial at Manchester Crown Court, it was revealed that Hamer, who was 14 at the time of the murder, had hit Joe several times with a frying pan, before stabbing him 16 times.
