Fake festive fundraisers warning
The Charity Commission has warned festive partygoers not to be caught out by bogus charity collectors this Christmas.
The Commission has issued a series of tips to help partygoers avoid fake festive fundraisers in pubs, clubs and bars over the Christmas party season.

They are:
- Do they only have a registered company number? This just means that the organisation is registered with Companies House.
- Be suspicious of someone who says they are collecting for 'sick kids' or 'the homeless at Christmas' - what is the name of the charity?
- Do they have proof of a written agreement with the charity authorising them to collect on their behalf? A photocopied 'thank you for your donation' letter is not the same thing.
- Can they tell you what proportion of the money they raise will go to the charity? Or, if they are paid, how much are they being paid?

Charities Urged To Look At Salaries Paid To Leaders
A charities regulator has warned that the industry risks falling into "disrepute" over the large salaries paid to some organisations staff. It follows a report by the Daily Telegraph that found salaries of £100,000 or more were paid to some 30 staff at 14 leading UK foreign aid charities last year.

Watchdog issues May Day charity scam alert
The Charity Commission is warning people out and about over the May Bank Holiday to beware of charity scams, particularly in the London area. People are advised to make simple checks when approached by anyone selling sweets, roses and other items in pubs, clubs, concert queues and other leisure spots, in the name of charity.
