Weather warnings issued following snow
The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for parts of England and Scotland following snow overnight.
Warnings are in place in the East coast of England, central and southern London, the Midlands and the Grampian region in Scotland.
An average of 2cm of snow fell in London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent overnight. The Met Office is forecasting further snow and ice for northeast, eastern and southeast England over the next 24 hours.
The weather has caused travel disruption. Part of the M25 in Surrey was closed for a while due to a jack-knifed lorry, while a crash involving a double-decker coach and a car on the northbound M23 led to the closure of the motorway in the direction of the A23 with all traffic diverted onto the M25.
There were also delays on the railways, with Southern and Southeastern services being affected.
Sixteen short-haul flights due to fly from Heathrow and Gatwick were also cancelled because of the weather, British Airways confirmed.
The Highways Agency has warned drivers to take extra care on the roads and check for up-to-date information on weather and road conditions before they set off on their journey and listen to radio bulletins during their journey.
