Lonely hearts conwoman jailed for two years
A woman who conned thousands of pounds from men she met through newspaper and internet dating sites has been jailed for two years.
Emma Golightly, 22, from Meadowfield Gardens in Walkerville, Newcastle, pretended to be a rich businesswoman who had terminal cancer in order to con the men.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how Golightly bought the men expensive cars and luxury holidays. However, the gifts had actually been purchased with her lovers' own credit cards, with which she also bought herself gifts.
Golightly's crime spree, which amounted to more than £250,000, saw her obtain a number of expensive holidays and cars, including a holiday worth nearly £8,500 and a Land Rover Freelander worth more than £13,000.
Golightly pleaded guilty to theft and obtaining property by deception.
Jailing her for two years, Judge David Wood said that he accepted that she suffered from a personality disorder, but said that the offences were so serious that a jail term was necessary.
