Asylum seeker jailed for sex attack
A Somali asylum seeker, previously convicted for several sex attacks, has been jailed indeterminately for molesting a seven-year-old girl.
Sadiq Mohammed, 32, was found guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting the girl in Bristol in May 2006.
Bristol Crown Court heard how he approached the girl outside a corner shop and took her to his home in the Barton Hill area of the city, where he sexually assaulted her.
Mohammed had denied one charge of child abduction and sexual assault, but the jury took just under two hours to find him guilty on both counts.
Mohammed had been jailed for four years in 2000 for attacking three women, including a 55-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl, but was released halfway through his sentence.
At the time, Judge Lester Boothman recommended him for deportation, but the Home Office did not act upon the advice.
A Home Office spokesperson said that each case was considered on its individual merits in accordance with Britain's international obligations.
At Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, Mohammed was given an indeterminate sentence and told that he would have to serve a minimum of three years before he could be considered for parole.
