Bomb blast kills British soldier in Basra
The Ministry of Defence has reported that a British soldier has been killed in Iraq on Friday 9 February 2007.
The MoD confirmed that the soldier had been killed in a roadside bomb attack while on patrol in the south-east of Basra City. Three other soldiers have also been injured, one of whom is described as being in a critical condition.
The solidiers are understood to have been travelling in a lightly armoured Snatch vehicle when the roadside bomb exploded.
A spokesperson for the MoD said that the injured soldiers had been medically evacuated to a field hospital by helicopter and are receiving the best possible medical care.
The name of the soldier killed has not yet been released and next of kin are being informed.
Since the coalition invasion of Iraq in 2003, 101 British military personnel have been killed.
