Four Somalia Britons detained
Four Britons arrested in Kenya on suspicion of fighting alongside Islamist militants in Somalia have been detained under terrorism laws upon their return to the UK.
The men, all in their 20s and from London, are now being questioned by police after they arrived at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire at 6:50am on Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson confirmed that the men had been taken to a west London police station where they are currently detained. The spokesperson added that the four men have not been arrested.
Police can now hold the men for nine hours before either arresting them or releasing them.
The four men were among a group of ten foreigners - which also included two Americans - who were found fleeing across the border from Somalia into Kenya around January 21.
The Britons were deported back to Somalia on Saturday before being taken back to Nairobi by UK Foreign Office staff and returned to the UK.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said that the men were all in good physical condition.
Fighting has been continuing in Somalia between Islamist forces and government troops, supported by Ethiopian forces. Ethiopian forces invaded Somalia in December in order to prevent the Islamist movement, the Union of Islamic Courts, from ousting the country's government, which is internationally recognised.
