Drifters involved in car crash
Soul band The Drifters have been involved in a serious car crash on the M1 in South Yorkshire.
The incident happened around 12:45am on Monday morning. The crash involved two cars - a red Skoda and a beige Chrysler Voyager in which the band were travelling,
South Yorkshire Police said that is believed that the driver of the Skoda swerved to avoid an animal, possibly a deer, that was on the carriageway. The Voyager then hit the Skoda, which had come to rest in the outside lane.
One of the band members, Patrick Alan, suffered head injuries in the crash and remains in Rotherham District General Hospital under observation. Another band member, Rohan Turney, dislocated his shoulder, while the remaining band members - Peter Lamarr and Victor Bynoe - were treated for whiplash. Their driver suffered cuts to his hand and was treated for a chest injury. The remainder of the band have returned to London.
The driver of the Skoda - a 21-year-old man from Gainsborough - sustained airbag injuries and whiplash. He managed to get out of his vehicle before the collision.
PC John Scruby of the Road Policing Group said: "It is quite astonishing that we were not dealing with a fatal collision given the nature of the incident. It is testament to the build quality of both vehicles, that no one was more seriously hurt."
Witnesses are asked to contact the South Yorkshire Police Accident Witness Line on: 0114 2202970.
