Teenager questioned over fatal stabbing
A teenager is being questioned in connection with the stabbing of a 16-year-old Tyneside boy.
Police are investigating the murder of Mark Smith, 16, from St John's Walk, Newcastle, who was stabbed and later died in hospital.
Police were called in after ambulance service personnel found the boy with serious stab wounds to his neck in the Elswick Road area in the west of the city on Wednesday evening.
The victim was taken to Newcastle General Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem is expected to be conducted later on Thursday.
Northumbria Police have cordoned off the scene where the boy was discovered and are appealing for information.
Police said that they are investing an earlier incident Gill Street prior to the discovery of he stabbed boy.
Police said they believed a number of people were in the Elswick Road area.

Teenager Held Over Fatal Stabbing In Birmingham
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old in Birmingham. The victim, named by the BBC as Azim Azam, was found in the street at around 8.30am on Monday. He died a short time later in hospital.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

Police Continue To Question Father Over Boy's Fatal Stabbing
Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a four-year-old boy in Huddersfield at the weekend are continuing to question his father. Ryan Hawkins died after being stabbed at a house in Royd Street in Slaithwaite around 1pm on Sunday. A post-mortem revealed that he died from multiple stab wounds.

The teenager, identified by police as Joseph Lappin, was with two friends when he was attacked by a group of youths outside Shrewsbury House Youth Club, Langrove Street, Everton at 8.40pm on Monday evening.

Two teenage girls have been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in Croydon, south-east London. The girl was discovered in Mann Close just before 8pm, when police were called to the scene following a disturbance. The teenager was suffering from a stab wound and she was taken to Mayday Hospital where she later died.
