Funeral held for shot officer
The funeral of a police officer shot dead while attending a domestic dispute took place on Friday.
Pc Richard Gray was shot when he went to the home of Peter Medlicott in the Castlefields area of Shrewsbury.
Medlicott is believed to have shot Pc Gray with a rifle he used in his job as a pest controller before turning the gun on himself.
Around 700 mourners are attending the funeral, which is being conducted with full police and military honours, at Shrewsbury Abbey.
There was a funeral procession past Shrewsbury Police Station before the service so that Pc Gray's colleagues could pay their respects.
Representatives of his former regiment, the Black Watch, carried Pc Gray’s coffin into the church. A piper from the regiment also led the funeral procession along with the West Mercia Constabulary standard bearer.
Pc Gray married his wife Jenny last August. He also has two grown-up sons from his first marriage.
The service was followed by a private burial.
