Third arrest over Sunderland stabbing
A third teenager has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a young father outside his home in Sunderland.
Kevin Johnson, 22, was stabbed outside his home in Partick Road in the city, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Saturday, while an 18-year-old man was arrested on Sunday.
The arrest followed an appeal by police for an unnamed 18-year-old man to hand himself in.
Northumbria Police were granted a further 36 hours to continue questioning the 16 and 17-year-old on Sunday evening.
Mr Johnson leaves a 26-year-old partner and a seven-month son called Chase.
Police are examining links between his death and a series of other incidents involving youths in the same area, including one in which another man was stabbed.
The other man, also in his twenties, was stabbed in the chest in Galway Square in the early hours of Saturday morning. However, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Police have also said that they want to speak to anyone in the Pennywell or Grindon area who may have had clothing stolen from washing lines between midnight and 9am on Saturday.
Mr Johnson's death follows the fatal stabbing of Shane Jackson, 15, in Newcastle last week, while Mark Smith, 16, was murdered in the city on May 3.
Northumbria Police has stressed that there is not a knife culture in the area.
