Three killed in motorway collision
Three people have been killed in a collision on the M40 in Buckinghamshire.
Eleven people were also injured in the incident, which involved between six and eight vehicles, including a lorry.
The collision happened between junctions three and four on the southbound carriageway, near Loudwater.
One casualty had to be airlifted to hospital, while the other ten were taken by ambulance.
Investigations into the collision are continuing, but police said that it appeared that a lorry travelling on the northbound carriageway crossed the central reservation and collided with vehicles on the southbound carriageway.
The M40 remains closed in both directions, although it was expected to reopen at 4:30pm on Thursday. Traffic around the site of the collision has been cleared and all other vehicles are being diverted off the motorway to rejoin at junction three. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Inspector Steve Bridges, investigating the collision, said: "Collision investigators are on scene working to establish the cause of the collision. We are especially interested in anyone who saw a white flatbed lorry loaded with blue pallets travelling northbound from the M25 to junction three at High Wycombe.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police inquiry centre on: 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
