Thomas Cook announces closure of 150 stores
Travel agent Thomas Cook has announced plans to close 150 stores and six offices, in a move, which is expected to cost around 2,800 jobs.
According to reports, sites in Rochdale, Birmingham, Manchester, Denton and Helmshore are among those set to close.
Thomas Cook recently completed a £2.8 billion merger with MyTravel and said that the closures would help the companies to cut around £95 million in costs.
Ina statement, Thomas Cook said that it would seek to offer alternative jobs elsewhere in the company to those affected by the closures.

Thomas Cook Close 200 Outlets
Travel agent Thomas Cook is to close 200 stores after announcing huge losses over the last year. The travel operator revealed it had recorded pre-tax annual losses of £398m and said it would close the stores over the next two years.

Thomas Cook Chief Executive Apologises Over Corfu Deaths
The Chief Executive of Thomas Cook has apologised to the family of two children who died from carbon monoxide in Corfu. Mr Peter Frankhauser said the firm "failed to show compassion". Speaking to the BBC, Mr Frankhauser said: "First I want to say that I am deeply sorry about the tragic death of Bobby and Christi Shepherd in 2006.
