Suspect package found at Tesco store
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspect package found in a Tesco store in Bristol.
Police were called to the store in the Eastville area of the city around 7:45am on Monday morning after the package was discovered.
Bomb disposal experts were called and the package was blown up around 11:15am.
The incident comes two days after 14 Tesco stores across the UK were forced to close following a series of threats.
The stores affected by the threats on Saturday were in Dyfed Powys, Fife, Strathclyde, Lancashire, Suffolk, Leicestershire, Humberside, Herefordshire, West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and London.
It has been speculated that animal rights activists may be behind the threats. However, a spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police, where Tesco has its headquarters, said that there was no reason to believe that the attacks were linked to any form of extremism.
It emerged on Monday afternoon that Tesco have received further letters containing threats. Hertfordshire Police confirmed that "a number of other letters" had been opened in the past 24 hours. It is understood that they refer to threats of possible incidents on Saturday, but they have only just been opened.
Police said that "every effort" was being made to trace those involved.
