Cameron Places Tories On Snap Offensive

Conservative leader David Cameron has ordered early preparations for an election as he seeks political high ground.

Mr Cameron will focus on the NHS, with reforms aimed at maintaining local health service provision, and crime as he pledges to mend Britain's damaged society.

However, last week's tax proposals advanced by a Conservative policy group that included the abolition of inheritance tax were labelled misleading by top Labour figures.

Mr Cameron rubbished statements that the Tories were swinging to the right as he promised a "bare-knuckle" fight on policy issues in the central ground such as hospital closures.

He also said that a taxation system that kept people and families together was the only way to strengthen families and communities in the UK.

Sunday's Observer has claimed that Labour is preparing to draw up options that would allow a snap election to be held as early as October as polls are currently buoyant on the "Brown tide". One that Mr Cameron is keen to stem as he seeks to take the battle to Labour, despite being derided for a trip to Rwanda during the worst flooding in his home constituency in 50 years.
