Baby Killed By Car Mounting Pavement
A two-month-old baby boy has died after his pushchair was struck by a car, which mounted the pavement in northwest London on Monday evening.
The incident happened in Willesden Green, northwest London.
The baby's mother was pushing the child along Park Avenue when a silver Ford Fiesta left the road and mounted the pavement.
The baby was taken to the Royal Free Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
His mother also suffered minor injuries in the collision but has now been discharged from hospital.
It is understood that the driver of the Fiesta - a 62-year-old man - stopped at the scene and is being questioned by police.
The man, who is from Harrow, is believed to have attributed the crash to brake failure.
Police said that they were investigating a number of possible causes for the crash, including the possibility that the man's jeans had become caught in the car's brake pedal.
A post-mortem is due to be carried out on the baby and an inquest into his death is due to be opened later on Tuesday.
Police have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on: 0208 998 5319.
