Murdered Birmingham Woman Was Suffocated

Police investigating the murder of an elderly woman in Birmingham have revealed that she died of suffocation.

The body of Mohinder Kaur, 81, was found in her home in Nutgrove Close by police around 3:15pm on August 25.

It is believed that the Mrs Kaur, a widow with five children and a number of grandchildren, was last seen alive in the early evening of August 23.

West Midlands Police said that they believed that someone went into her flat and gagged Mrs Kaur. They said that it was not known at this stage whether any property is missing, although they said that there were signs of a search.

DCI Steve Bimson, who is in charge of the inquiry, said: "Although there are no signs of a forced entry, it is believed that someone entered the flat and attacked Mohinder in her own home, resulting in her death. We are anxious to catch the person or persons responsible and urge anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.

"We are not connecting the incident with any other crime and want to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to find those responsible."

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the Nutgrove Close or Middleton Road on August 23 and who saw Mrs Kaur to contact: 0845 113 5000 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
