Boris Johnson Launches London Mayor Campaign
Conservative MP Boris Johnson has launched his campaign to become the party's candidate for London Mayor next year.
Mr Johnson, former shadow minister for the arts and MP for Henley, launched his campaign at County Hall.
During a speech, he voiced his support for 24-hour policing and said that he would not scrap the congestion charge unless a better alternative was found.
Other Conservative candidates for the post - which is currently held by Ken Livingstone - include party activists Andrew Boff, Victoria Borwick and Warwick Lightfoot.
The Tory candidates will take part in hustings next week and ballot papers will be available until September 23.
All registered voters in London can vote in the ballot, which closes on September 26, with the results to be announced the next day.

Scotland Yard has launched an advertising campaign, highlighting the threat of a terror attack in Britain. The counter-terrorism campaign, which launches almost six months after the bombings on London’s transport network, has the message: “Terrorists won’t succeed if someone reports suspicious activity – and you are that someone”.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

RMT tube strike to start June 10
Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) members working on the London Underground have today "voted overwhelmingly" to strike action on June 10 - a date which coincides with the European and London mayoral elections. The union said that action had been taken following the employers’ "failure to negotiate seriously on pay and conditions".

A soldier on Olympics duty stopped the Prime Minister and asked to see his identification. David Cameron praised the serviceman for being "on his marks" as he made his way back to Downing Street after visiting the Olympic Park in Stratford by Tube.
