Two British Soldiers Killed Are Named
Two British soldiers killed in an explosion in Afghanistan have been named by the Ministry of Defence.
Private Ben Ford, 18, and Private Damian Wright, 23, were both from the 2nd Battallion The Mercian Regiment.
They were taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when the WMIK Landrover vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A third British soldier was injured and a civilian intepreter was killed during the incident.
Lieutenant Colonel Simon Banton Commanding Officer 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment (Worcesters & Foresters) said: "Private Wright was one of the key characters in our Battalion. Full of life, a natural comedian and a man guaranteed to lift the spirits of the most down hearted. He was devoted to his son, Joshua, and our thoughts are with him at this desperate time. Private Wright will not be forgotten by anyone who had the pleasure and privilege of meeting him."

Yet another soldier has died as a result of the conflict in Afghanistan. He died in a UK hospital after being injured in an explosion, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. He served with the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) and was on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand when he was wounded on 13 July.

The Ministry of Defence has released the names of three soldiers killed in Iraq on Thursday. Corporal Paul Joszko, from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh and Privates Scott Kennedy and James Kerr, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Basra.
