Man Bailed Over Teenage Girl's Rape
A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with the rape of a teenage girl who later died in a fall from a motorway bridge days after the assault was reported, has been released on police bail.
Hampshire Police confirmed that the man was arrested at a property in the Calmore area of Southampton on Thursday morning.
He has now been released on bail until November 12.
Earlier, a police spokesperson had described the arrest as "a very significant development".
The 18-year-old Sara Clark from Totton was walking home after a night out in Southampton, when she was assaulted near to a children's play area in the recreation ground in Salisbury Road in Totton on May 30. She reported the assault to police. However, her body was found on the westbound carriageway of the M27 near Southampton in the early hours of June 2.
Her family said that a delay in a follow-up call by police had led to her becoming depressed and fearing that no one believed her.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the case.
