Lonely Return For Thai Cave Tragedy Survivor
The sole survivor of a flash flood in a cave in Thailand that killed six tourists and two guides has returned to the UK.
Helena Carroll, 21, from Solihull in the West Midlands was rescued on Sunday after clinging to a ledge in the roof of the cave in Khao Sok national park for 16 hours.
Miss Carroll had been in a group of seven tourists in the cave in the south of Thailand when the flash floods, caused by heavy rainfall, sent water surging through the cave, which was located near a waterfall.
Miss Carroll's boyfriend John Cullen, 24, was killed, along with a ten-year-old German boy, four Swiss nationals - believed to be a couple and their two daughters - and two Thai guides.
It is understood that Miss Carroll arrived at Heathrow Airport from Bangkok on Tuesday and met with her father, John, but left via a side exit to avoid media attention.
On Monday, Mr Cullen's elder brother Stephen praised him for his "brave and courageous actions" and said he had died "trying to do the right thing". He also said that his brother and Miss Carroll were "very much in love".
