Yorkshire Sea Tragedy Claims Two Lives
A private cabin cruiser has capsized in heavy seas off the North Yorkshire coast today, killing two people.
Two men and a woman are understood to have been in the boat when it got into difficulties after leaving Whitby Harbour this morning (Friday).
All three were eventually taken to hospital but one of the men and the woman have since died, a North Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed.
The other man is bad too and thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
A coastguard spokesman said: "We were alerted to the cabin cruiser at 12.15pm.
"It appears to have left Whitby Harbour and got into difficulties about 100 yards from the sea wall."
The spokesman said that at one point, people in the harbour who had called the coastguard had been unable to see the victims in the water because of the swell of the sea.
"The swell was around 20 to 30ft high," he said.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said members of staff were at the scene off Pier Road, Whitby to take the injured to the nearest hospital.

It is understood the bodies were discovered in a vessel moored off Pier Road at around 10:00 on Wednesday morning. Police have described the deaths as "unexplained, but not suspicious." IPCC Ask North Yorkshire Police For Savile Review
North Yorkshire Police has been asked to review “all relevant material” relating to contact its officers had with Jimmy Savile. According to the BBC, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is acting "in light of information received" and said it wanted to know whether there were "conduct matters that should be referred to us".

Manhunt Launched For Double Murder Suspect
Police have launched a manhunt following the discovery of two murder victims. A 35-year-old suspect, named as James Allen, is being sought on suspicion of murdering 81-year-old Colin Dunford, and a 50-year-old Julie Davison. The body of Colin Dunford was found at his home in Middlesbrough on Monday.

Staff Taken Off North Sea Oil Platform
Workers are being evacuated from a North Sea oil platform after hydrocarbons were detected in one of its legs, it has been announced. The incident is at Taqa Bratani's Cormorant Alpha platform, which is about 94 miles off Shetland. It is understood there are 159 people on board and all are said to be safe and well.

River Search Continues For Missing 11-Year-Old
A major search operation is continuing for an 11-year-old boy who fell into the River Towy in Carmarthen. The operation was launched at about 16:00 on Tuesday when it was reported the boy had gone into the river.
