Meredith Murder Suspect To Be Extradited
A man suspected of involvement in the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy is to be extradited from Germany, it has been announced.
Ivory Coast national Rudy Hermann Guede, 20, was arrested in Germany on November 20, one day after an international arrest warrant was issued for him. He was detained on a tram by a ticket inspector as he did not have a ticket.
Italian police had identified Mr Guede as a suspect in Meredith's murder. According to reports, bloody fingerprints found on Meredith's pillow and on toilet paper in her bathroom matched Mr Guede's.
Mr Guede's lawyer said that his client had admitted being in Miss Kercher's room on the night she died, but had denied any involvement in her death.
Meredith, 21, from Couldson in south London, was found dead in the house where she was living in Perugia on November 1.
Three other people have been arrested in connection with her murder. Twenty-year-old Amanda Knox, an American student who was Miss Kercher's housemate, and her Italian former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 24, are still in custody after failing in their bid to be released on bail.
Another man, Congolese bar owner Diya Lumumba, has been released on bail, but remains a suspect.
