Elderly Woman Assaulted In 'Vicious' Robbery
A 79-year-old woman was tied up and assaulted during a robbery in her home in Scotland, which the police have since described as "vicious and despicable".
The attack happened shortly before 3:30pm on Thursday at the woman's home in Parkview Avenue in Kirkintilloch.
The woman answered the door to a man who forced his way into the house. He tied the woman up and ransacked the house, stealing a jar of coins.
However, the woman's 47-year-old son came to the house, causing the attacker to drop the coins and flee the scene empty-handed.
The woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where she was found to be suffering from a broken shoulder.
She has since been released from hospital, but it is said to be "very distressed" by her ordeal.
The attacker is described as aged between 18 and 30, 5ft 4ins tall and was wearing a hooded top with the hood over his head.
Detective Constable Martin Davies of Kirkintilloch CID said: "This was a vicious and despicable attack on a vulnerable member of the local community. This ordeal has left the victim very distressed and badly shaken. She now fears for her own safety within her own home."
Det Con Davies also warned other local residents of the dangers of opening their front doors to unknown persons. He said: "I would advise that residents use spy holes and door chains to check who is at their front doors before opening them."
Anyone with any information regarding the attack is asked to contact: Kirkintilloch CID on: 0141 532 4400 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
