Police Chief's Body Released For Burial
The body of Greater Manchester Police Chief Michael Todd has been released to his family for burial.
The 50-year-old married father-of-three was found dead at the foot of cliff near Bwlch Glas in Snowdon north Wales on Tuesday afternoon. It is understood that he was lightly clothed and a half-empty bottle of gin was reportedly found beside the body.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on Thursday.
On Thursday, Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones revealed that Mr Todd had been over the legal drink-drive limit at the time of his death.
The findings came from the post-mortem conducted by patholoigst Dr Anthony Caslin on Wednesday.
The post-mortem also found "no obvious cause of death" and further toxicology tests are to be carried out.
It has been reported that Mr Todd had several extra-marital affairs and that he sent a series of text messages to family and friends before his death, which were described as "worrying".
On Thursday, Mr Todd's widow Carolyn paid tribute to her husband in a statement. It said: "Michael was a caring and loving father and husband. He was immensely proud of his kids. I loved Michael very much and the last time I spoke to him he told me he loved me too."
Mr Todd had been Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police since 2002, having previously been an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police.
He had been tipped as a possible future Metropolitan Police Commissioner - the highest policing position in the UK.
