Canal Rescue After Car Collision

A mother and baby have been rescued from a canal after a car collision.

The car plunged into the canal after hitting another vehicle in Deep Dale Lane, a country road in Barrow-on-Trent, Derbyshire today.

The woman and her 13-month-old baby were give first aid at the scene by two nurses before being flown to hospital by air ambulance.

The infant is now in intensive care at Queen's Medical centre.

The Daily Mail has reported that an engineer dived into the canal to save the infant from drowning.

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said that it was lucky that the two nurses were on hand, and as a direct result resuscitated the baby.

Dr Stuart Maitland-Knibb, from the air ambulance said it was "a very traumatic incident".

A Police Constable at the scene said that "the people involved were very brave".

Missing Baby Found 'Safe And Well'
A nine-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from her home in Glouchestershire on Monday has been found safe and well. Maylayah Delaney had been reported missing by her mother shortly before lunch-time on Monday. Police have confirmed that a man from the West Midlands is helping them with their inquiries.

A 70-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Manchester last week. David Broady, from Victoria Square in Manchester, has been charged with the murder of Craig Douglas and is due to appear before magistrates this morning.

Man Arrested Over Manchester Murder
Police investigating the murder of a 25-year-old man in Manchester last week have arrested a 70-year-old man. Craig Douglas was walking along Canal Street in the city last Monday evening with another man, when they were involved in an argument with two other men. Mr Douglas was then stabbed in the neck with a small knife.

Police have appealed for information about a 70-year-old man they wish to speak to in connection with a fatal stabbing in Manchester. Police have appealed for David Broady, or anyone who knows of his whereabouts, to contact them.
