Police Quiz Husband After Body Find
The husband of a missing TV make-up artist is being questioned again after human remains were found in woodland.
Fifty-one-year-old David Chenery-Wickens, of Duddleswell, East Sussex, had previously been arrested on suspicion of his wife's murder but had his police bail extended to May 30, pending further enquiries.
Diane, 48, went missing on 24 January after travelling from East Grinstead to London by train with her husband.
The make-up artist who has worked on Casualty and Dead-Ringers, had a meeting with the BBC and was due to meet her husband after, but she did not show up. Police believe she did not attend the meeting.
It is reported that Mrs Chenery-Wickens had been undergoing divorce proceeding with her husband for the past three years.
A neighbour is reported as saying that Mr Chenery-Wickens, who works for Lavender Line steam railway was a "very pleasant man" and they were "such a nice couple".
A woman made the gruesome discovery of a decomposed body in undergrowth while out walking her dog in the village of Little Horsted, near Uckfield, East Sussex – about eight miles from the couple's home on Thursday.
Mrs Chenery-Wickens family have been informed of the developments and inquiries are continuing to determine where the remains are hers.
Impressionist Jon Culshow had made a televised appeal to help locate her days after she was reported missing by her husband.
Police say that "it may take some time" for forensic and post mortem examinations to be carried out on the body.
Presiding over the case, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, of Sussex Police's major crime branch has made an appeal for those who may have seen "anything suspicious" to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Johns said that he did not want to "make any assumption" that the body is Mrs Chenery-Wickens and that he had to keep "an open mind" as inquiries unfold.
Over the past few months, specialist search teams have explored sites based on "specific information" in Ashdown Forest on the Kent/East Sussex border.
The Bafta nominated make-up artist has worked for more than 20 years on some of television's most popular shows such as League of Gentlemen and Prides and Prejudice.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070 999.
