Eastender Hard Man Hurt On Set
TV soap actor Steve McFadden has had an emergency operation on his hand after falling downstairs on the set of the long-running series, Eastenders.
McFadden who plays bad-boy Phil Mitchell in the popular soap received 30 stitches and doctors also had to put pins in his bones when he was rushed to hospital after the accident.
Forty-nine-year-old McFadden who missed two days of filming has since returned to work with a splint in his arm.
It is understood that Eastender bosses have worked the injury into a storyline about it.
Health and safety officials are currently investigating the incident at Elstree studios near London.
The show's producers are said to be taking the accident very seriously.
It is believed the actor is not blaming anyone on set for the incident and was said to be eager to get back to work after his operation.
Eastenders - first broadcast on BBC 1 on 19 February 1985 - has won five BAFTA Awards and has won the 'Inside Soap' Award for 'Best Soap' for the past 10 years running.
McFadden has played the role the Eastender rogue for the past 18 years.
