Emergency Landing For Aircraft At Manchester Airport
A light aircraft made an emergency landing at Manchester Airport yesterday after getting into difficulties.
The pilot of the Piper 34, which was flying to the airport from Blackpool, reported technical problems on final approach.
An emergency landing was carried out on Runway Two shortly after 4pm, it remained closed for at least an hour.
The pilot and two passengers on board suffered minor injuries and had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighers.
It is understood the aircraft suffered problems with the left-hand main undercarriage.
Fire crews were called to the plane, after it touched down on two wheels.
It is understood the pilot had made a 'mayday' call as he approached the airport.
Firefighters from Wythenshawe, Sale, Altrincham and Cheadle attended the scene as a full emergency was declared.
A spokeswoman for Manchester Airport said: "The pilot carried out an emergency landing on Runway 2.
"The pilot and two passengers are currently receiving medical treatment but none is believed to be seriously injured"
it is understood that the pilot and his passengers did not need hospital treatment.
The UK Accidents Investigation branch has been informed.
The Piper 34, which had its maiden flight on 23 September 1971, is a twin engine version of the PA-32 Cherokee Lance series.
