Teenager Found Guilty Of Kelly Hyde Murder
A 17-year-old has been found guilty of brutally murdering a hairdresser in south Wales, and dumping her body in stream.
Twenty-four-year-old Kelly Hyde had been walking her dog along a bridle path in Carmarthenshire when Adrian Vivian Jones, 17 attacked her.
The jury at Swansea Court heard the teenager used a barbell - which matched one found at his home - to beat the young woman from Ammanford around the head. Her body had then been dragged away and dumped in a stream.
Miss Hyde's disappearance in September last year resulted in a major missing persons hunt, involving police officers and mountain rescue teams. Her body was found three days later at a remote stretch of land in Pantyffynnon.
The accused denied her murder, however, he admitted he took the dog lead - an important piece of evidence - to his home in Mill Terrace, Pantyffynnon. He was subsequently arrested days after the hairdresser's body was found, after police were able to trace a training shoe print from the crime scene to the type he wore.
During a search of his home officers uncovered a dog lead which the then 16-year-old Jones said he took home not realising it was blood soaked.
Later, forensic tests showed the young woman's blood in the stitching of his shoes.
During the three-week trial the court heard Miss Hyde had disappeared on 27 September 2007 after dropping her car off at a garage for its MOT. She had taken her pet whippet, Scrappy for a walk.
Jones will be sentenced tomorrow.
