Triple Road Crash Tragedy For Family
A grandfather and his four-year-old granddaughter have been killed in a road accident while on their way to the funeral of a relative.
Paul Anderson, 48 and Samantha Carr died on the A9 on Saturday at around 9.20am. His wife and other granddaughter were also injured in the collision.
The family were on their way to the funeral of Mr Anderson's niece, Vick Pickering, 27, who was killed in a crash in Lancashire on 4 July.
Mr Anderson, his wife Mel and two granddaughters, Samantha, 4 and Emma, 3, were driving along the A9 between Dalwhinnie and Newtonmore, one of Scotland's busiest roads, when the latest incident occurred.
Samantha died at the scene and her grandfather was flown by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The collision involved a 4x4 towing a caravan, two vans and a car.
It was a triple tragedy for the Pickering family as Mrs Pickering has lost a daughter, brother and grandniece in the space of about a fortnight.
Meanwhile, Mrs Anderson and the three-year-old granddaughter are believed to be in a stable condition in hospital.
Since the fatal crash, there have been renewed calls for the A9 to be dualled completely between Inverness and Perth.
The deaths of Paul and Samantha have taken the death toll on the A9 to six in just six weeks.
