Man Handed Life Sentence For Care Home Murders

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering two women as they lay in their beds at a nursing home.

Nathan Mann, 20, pleaded guilty to the murder of Rashmi Badiani, 56, and Radhaben Chauhan, 72, at Hayes Park nursing home in Leicester, last November.

It is understood that Mann had entered the home through an unlocked window.

Mr Justice McCombe said at Mann's sentencing that "a double murder is particularly serious and is all the more so when perpetrated on defenceless and incapacitated ladies in the middle of the night".

"On any footing this was a frenzied attack on two victims who could hardly have been more vulnerable," he said.

Man will serve a minimum of 24 years and three months.

It understood that Mann punched Mrs Badiana on the face, fracturing her nose and cheekbone. He also ripped out Mrs Chauhan's catheter and suffocated her.

He then barricaded the door to their room and made his escape.

Mann has refused to admit any "sexual conduct" with his victims and claims he has no recollection of it happening.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Smith, of Leicestershire Police, said Man was a "violent and dangerous individual" who "took the lives of two defenceless, vulnerable women in an unprovoked and cowardly attack as they lay in their beds".

"This was an horrific incident that has devastated two families now united in grief," he said.

The case had initially been adjourned pending a report into Mann's psychological state.
