Boy Recovers From Railway Track Burns
A schoolboy is recovering in hospital from electrical burns he received at Widnes Railway Station.
The fifteen-year-old boy was taken to hospital by ambulance last night with burns to his hands.
Police were called to Victoria Avenue close to a station viaduct after reports that the boy had been admitted to the Burns Unit at Whiston Hospital.
He was transferred to Liverpool Alder Hey Hospital this morning. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
It is believed the boy had been in the area of the viaduct with two other youths.
Chief Inspector Neil Moffatt, of British Transport Police, said: "We would urge everyone to remember that they should never trespass onto the railway. The railway is a very dangerous environment."
"Railway lines are operational 24 hours a day. Strong electrical currents pass through the cables and trains can travel at speeds of over 100mph and can’t swerve to miss someone in their path."
Enquires are ongoing by officers from British Transport Police.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
