Two Youngsters Die In Stabbings
Knife crime in the UK reached a new low at the weekend with news of the death of two youngsters from stab wounds.
Younger and younger people are getting involved, with a 16-year-old due to be questioned later over the fatal stabbing of one of the teenage victims.
The boy is being held on suspicion of murdering Conor Black in Harpurhey, Manchester, in the early hours of Saturday.
The 16-year-old joinery student was knifed after reportedly attending a rowdy party where he was embroiled in a petty squabble.
Later, his body was discovered slumped on grass just feet from a main road after a hooded figure was seen running from the scene.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed an arrest had been made but still urged witnesses to come forward.
He said: "Conor was killed on Moston Lane by a single stab wound to his upper left shoulder.
"Paramedics tried to treat Conor for a puncture wound, but he died on the way to hospital."
Earlier Nilanthan Murddi, 17, was killed in Croydon, south London.
He also died of a single knife wound - this time to the neck - after an incident on Sumner Road in the early hours of Saturday.
Police said that a 31-year-old man arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder has since been released on police bail.
