Lay-By Death Shock

A lorry driver died yesterday in a roadside accident. The man, who came from the Yorkshire Dales, was killed in a single-vehicle accident in a local vehicle lay-by. The tragedy happened at about noon on Wednesday in the Skip Bridge lay-by on the A59 between Green Hammerton and Monkton Moor. A blue 17-tonne tipper lorry he was moving along the lay-by ended up in a ditch and the driver, who was aged in his 60s and from the Leyburn area, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Yorkshire Air Ambulance doctor.

Winter Near-Miss

The wash-out summer is over and now a severe weather warning has been issued for parts of the UK. South Wales and south-west England are under threat but a spokesman for the Met Office said that the county would most likely be on the periphery of the worst weather. He said: "Oxfordshire will get some heavy rain but the heaviest rain will be to the west of the county, however, during the course of Friday we could see 30mm to 50mm of rain and it will be a blustery day with strong winds."
