Programme Reveals 2012 Construction 'Job Scam'

Hundreds of Eastern European workers have been duped into handing over cash for non-existent construction jobs at the 2012 London Olympic site, a BBC investigation has found.

Around 550 Slovakians paid £600 deposits to convicted East London conman, Nigel Lewis, according to BBC London. He had promised them work on the site of the Olympic Village and accommodation on a cruise ship in the Docklands.

A programme - to be aired on Monday evening - alleges Mr Lewis advertised for tradesmen and catering staff to work on the east London site.

However, when the money was deposited in the man's account, he vanished and the jobs never materialised.

According to the programme, he was sentenced to 120 hours community service in 2003 for a similar scam in Weymouth.

Full details of the investigation will be shown on a programme that will be aired on BBC tonight.
