'Fusionman' To Cross The English Channel
Swiss pilot Yves Rossy will attempt to fly across the English channel using a single jet-propelled wing strapped to his back.
The former military pilot intends to complete the 22 mile flight from Calais to Dover in 12 minutes.
The 49-year-old, known as 'Fusionman', will take a plane to more than 8,200ft, ignite four kerosene-burning turbines on the wing, and then jump out.
He will steer using his head and back as the wing has no rudder or tail fin. Rossy will also wear a special suit in addition to a helmet and parachute to protect him as he travels at speeds of up to 125mph.
The pilot will trace the route of French aviator Louis Blériot who became the first person to fly across the English Channel in 1909.
In an interview earlier this week with the BBC Mr Rossy said: "If I calculate everything right, I will land in Dover. But if I get it wrong, I take a bath.”
