Brothers Due In Court Over Banker Death
Two men are due in court charged with the murder of city banker, Frank McGarahan, 45, who died attempting to break up a street brawl in the early hours of Sunday.
Brothers Tom and Ben Cowles, aged 20 and 21, of Costessey, Norfolk are to appear before Norwich Magistrates' today charged with the murder of the 45-year-old Barclays Wealth Chief Operating Officer.
A police spokesman said Ben Cowles was also charged with three counts of assault, relating to the victim's cousin, his brother and a Lithuanian man.
Yesterday Daniel Moy, 21, also of Costessey, was charged with assaulting Mr McGarahan's cousin.
The 21-year-old was bailed and is due to appear before Norwich Magistrates' on 15 October.
Frank McGarahan was waiting for a taxi beside the Guildhall Hill rank in Norwich at 3am on Sunday when he saw two people being assaulted. He was badly beaten when he intervened in the street fight.
However, his injuries were so serious he was immediately transferred to a specialist head injuries unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where the father of two died.
Post mortem results have revealed Mr McGarahan died as a result of a "bleed to the brain", a police spokesman said.
