Al Fayed Denies Child Assault Claims
Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed has vehemently denied a newspaper report alleging he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl, after voluntarily speaking to police.
Mr al Fayed was questioned 'under caution' for 30 minutes, at a London police station yesterday, during which he denied the Sun newspaper's claims.
His spokesperson Katharine Witty said: "We confirm that Mohamed al Fayed today voluntarily attended an interview with police to categorically refute an allegation widely reported in the media,
"Mr al Fayed vehemently denies this allegation and is confident that his name will be cleared."
A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a man attended a west London police station by prior arrangement and was questioned under caution.
"He was questioned in relation to an allegation of sexual assault on a girl of 15 at a business premises in central London. The allegation was made in May 2008."
The police spokesman confirmed that no arrests had been made, but declined to reveal the man's identity.
The investigation was ongoing, he added.
Mr al Fayed is a high-profile media personality. As well as owning the esteemed Harrods store, he also runs Fulham football club.
At a recent inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, Mr al Fayed accused Prince Philip of having a hand in the 1997 Paris car accident, which killed the Princess and al Fayed's son Dodi.
The coroner ruled that the couple had not been murdered.

The jury in the Princess Diana inquest have seen new CCTV footage of Dodi Al Fayed picking out what his family say was an engagement ring. Just hours before the crash in which the couple were killed, Mr Al Fayed paid a visit to the Paris branch of the famous jeweller Alberto Repossi.

Mohammed Al Fayed has been asked to provide any evidence that Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed were murdered to an inquest into their deaths. Speaking at a pre-inquest hearing on Monday, Lady Butler-Sloss said that she had not been given "a shred of evidence" about the allegations.
