British Tourists Stranded At Thai Airport
Hundreds of British tourists are believed to have been left stranded at Thailand's main international airport in Bangkok, after anti-government protestors occupied the building.
According to reports, at least 3,000 passengers are stranded at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. It is understood that some Britons had already passed through immigration when the protest began and they are now stranded at the airport as they cannot re-enter Bangkok without a new visa.
The Foreign Office has confirmed that they have been contacted on seven occasions by travellers who are stuck at the airport. They also confirmed that consular staff are at the airport in order to help Britons affected by the protest.
It is not known exactly how many Britons have been affected by the situation.
Thousands of protestors from the People's Alliance for Democracy, have occupied the building. They are are protesting against Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and have threatened to continue their protest until he resigns.
All flights from the airport have been cancelled and incoming flights are being diverted to other Thai airports, including Chiang Mai and Phuket.
Meanwhile, four bombs - described as being 'small' - exploded in various areas of Bangkok in the early hours of Wednesday morning, including near both Don Muang domestic airport and the main international airport. A number of people were injured.
The Foreign Office is warning that there is a "possibility of further violence" and describes the political situation in Thailand as "very uncertain".
Travellers to Thailand are advised to check with their airline or tour operator before they travel.
